This two-week Australia and New Zealand tour delivers dramatic landscapes, exotic wildlife, ancient traditions, and a touch of adventure. See the sights by historic tramcar, catamaran, helicopter, cruise boat, sky gondola, and jet boat. In Australia, The Sydney Opera House, Great Barrier Reef, a tropical rainforest hideaway, koalas, and an Aboriginal performance are highlights. Geysers, Milford Sound fiords, kiwis, and a Maori cultural performance are standouts on the New Zealand tour.
Day 1 - Arrive Sydney / Harbour Cruise
Tour begins: 1:30 PM, InterContinental Sydney. A transfer is included from Sydney Airport to InterContinental Sydney. Established as a settlement for British convicts over two centuries ago, Sydney today is Australia’s largest city, set on one of the world’s most beautiful harbors. A sightseeing tour takes in the famed Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Rocks, Sydney’s oldest colonial district. Board a private boat for a cocktail cruise in Sydney Harbour, then enjoy a dinner of Australian specialties at a waterfront restaurant. Your hotel is in the heart of the city. Day 2 - Explore Sydney
Sightseeing today includes a visit to the Sydney Opera House, one of the most recognizable buildings in the world, as well as the Koala Park Sanctuary for a look at these endangered cuddly creatures. Return to Sydney, where you’ll spend the remainder of the day exploring as you please. From restaurants to the cultural arts, Sydney has it all. (Breakfast included)
Day 3 - Discover Tropical Rainforests
Fly to Queensland to explore tropical rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef. Upon your arrival in Cairns, travel to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park to learn about the cultural traditions of Aboriginal life. Your home for the next two nights is Silky Oaks Lodge, a tropical hideaway bordering Daintree Rainforest, regarded as the oldest living rainforest on earth. Secluded within 80 acres of lush rainforest, much of the hotel is built in the style of secluded treehouses. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
Day 4 - Explore the Great Barrier Reef
The high-tech catamaran Quicksilver whisks you to the Great Barrier Reef to swim and snorkel, or to explore the dazzling kaleidoscope of color in the underwater world via a semi-submersible. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
Day 5 - Fly to Melbourne
Fly from tropical Cairns to Melbourne, with its stately Victorian architecture and gardens; a late day arrival leaves the evening to explore as you please. (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 6 - Sights of Melbourne
A city sightseeing tour of Melbourne, set along the Yarra River, includes Fitzroy Gardens, Parliament House, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Anzac Memorial. The rest of the day is free to pursue what interests you most. Tonight you'll experience a touch of days gone by when you dine aboard the historic Colonial Tramcar, viewing the city through the soft glow of evening as you travel along the Melbourne's distinctive Victorian streets. Day 7 - Fly to New Zealand
Fly across the Tasman Sea to Auckland, New Zealand, the “City of Sails.” Auckland is renowned as a center for the arts, commerce, and transportation. (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 8 - Highlights of Auckland
Visit Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World and the Auckland War Memorial Museum – Te Papa Whakahiku. The museum is renowned for extensive collections featuring the natural, cultural and human history of New Zealand; you’ll gain insights into Maori culture when you attend a traditional Maori dance presentation. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore. (Breakfast included)
Day 9 - North Island Farm Visit / Rotorua
Travel to Longlands Farm in Matamata, a combination working dairy farm and country gardens, where you’ll have lunch. Visit the Agrodome, a 160-hectare sheep and cattle farm, to learn about sheep farming en route to Rotorua and Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve – where geothermal activity includes bubbling mud pools, geysers, steam vents and hot springs. Day 10 - Fiordland National Park / Te Anau
Fly to Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland National Park. Enjoy free time to explore the village overlooking Lake Te Anau, the South Island’s largest lake. (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 11 - Milford Sound Cruise
Milford Sound is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful destinations; your cruise through its amphitheatre of sheer cliffs, glacier-carved inlets, majestic waterfalls and snow-capped peaks is certain to be a highlight. Travel to Queenstown; set along the scenic shores of Lake Wakatipu, it has been voted by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler as the world’s “Friendliest Foreign City.” (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
Day 12 - Queenstown / Jet Boat
Shoot the Shotover River rapids on one of the world’s most exciting jet boat adventures, then board a helicopter for flightseeing over Queenstown and The Remarkables; land on Bobs Peak for a panoramic vista before a gondola ride down to town. Experience the beauty of New Zealand’s flora and fauna in their natural surroundings at the Kiwi and Birdlife Park, set on eight lovely acres. (Breakfast included)
Day 13 - Fly to Christchurch
Enjoy a magnificent sightseeing journey up the South Island on a flight to Christchurch, known as the “most English city outside of England”; spend the afternoon exploring at leisure. Join us this evening for a farewell dinner. (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 14 - Depart New Zealand
Tour ends: Christchurch. A transfer is included from Millennium Hotel Christchurch to Christchurch International Airport. Please allow 2 1/2 hours for flight check-in at the airport. (Breakfast included)
